Farmer’s Table’s New Event Center
Farmer’s Table opens airy, elegant, tasteful event center
It was a re-imagining opening Wednesday night at Farmer’s Table Event Center, next to the Wyndham Hotel in Boca Raton. This space has been decked out in warm wood tones and clean lines, with innovative food and cocktails. That’s a lot to ask for a two-story venue with two ballrooms, plus multiple customizable areas attached to a hotel (1950 Glades Road, 561/417-1892).
The stereotype is the opposite of reality here: This is somewhere both personal and professional for both large and not-so-large events. Food is from next-door’s Farmer’s Table that’s largely vegan, with lots of gluten-free dishes, all sugar-free, preservative-free and healthful. Plus, it tastes great. This was clear at the opening event, where bites included the gluten-free chicken meatballs in pomodoro sauce, and the avocado & cucumber tartare, along with the popular cucumber cooler (non-alcoholic, quite good) and glasses of bubbly. The desserts by Pastry Chef Ivy Haaks will make you forget sugar in a scrumptious way.
Definitely put the Farmer’s Table restaurant on your to-visit list, and keep the event center in mind for those big life/work moments.
Celebrate Julia Child with French dinner, wines at Waterstone
Famous French chef (and war-time spy!) Julia Child would have been 104 this month. Her influence on our cooking and eating habits is legendary. As are her sayings—one of my favorites being something to the effect of, “The only way to peel a mango is in the bathtub.” Very true.
Waterstone Resort (999 E. Camino Real, 561/368-9500) in Boca Raton is celebrating Julia’s birthday by throwing a French dinner (of course!) on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m., which features dishes such as confit of duck breast, beef carpaccio, beef bourguignon and pairings with Jean-Luc Colombo wines from southern France. The cost is $75 per person, excluding tax/gratuity.
